Every now and then people ask us if it is possible to change the shortcuts that are used by ASAP Utilities. For example: "Hello, is it possible to change the Ctrl + Alt + J shortcut to something else?" Often because people already use the same shortcut for their own macro. Well, you can already do this easily the past 8 years (already since version 3.0.6 from September 2003)
How to change the shortcuts
You can easily change the shortcut to whatever you like via:
ASAP Utilities » Favorites & Shortcuts » Organize your favorite tools...
By using and customizing the Favorites menu and assigning your own shortcuts you can quickly access the tools you use the most frequently. And in Excel 2000, 2002 and 2003, you can also create a toolbar with your favorites tools.

We're proud to officially announce the new version of ASAP Utilities!
New exiting tools have been added and several improvements have been made.
- Do you often work with Excel's Filters or AutoFilters?
- Do you need to export your worksheets as separate workbooks?
- Did you ever wanted to change your conditional formatting to static formatting (like "copy > paste values" for formulas)?
- Would you like a way to automatically have a cell's value or formula added as a comment?
- Do you need to change the JD Edwards (AS/400) Julian dates to dates that Excel can handle?
... the new version that will do all this and more.
Many thanks to everyone who has contributed their feedback and tested the pre-release!

In addition to my post for yesterday that demonstrated how to save worksheets as separate workbooks, this article will show how how to save several worksheets together in a single new workbook.
To save several sheets from your workbook together in a new file, you can do the following in Excel:
- First select the sheets (you can select multiple by holding the Control key), and the right-click on one of them.
Then choose "Move or Copy...

- Select (new book) and check "Create a copy":

- After you've pressed the OK button you'll notice that a new workbook is created with the selected sheets only:

- Now you have a new workbook with only the selected sheets which you can save as a new file.

I just received the following question from Azad from Australia:
Hi, Is it possible to select a number of worksheets and export as a single workbook?
As you probably already know, Excel itself doesn't have a option for this. It can be a time consuming job to save each worksheet as a separate workbook.
Fortunately it is very easy to do with the following tool from ASAP Utilities:
Export » Export worksheets as separate files...

Quite frequently people ask us how to remove all content before or after a certain character.
This is easy to do this with Excel's built-in Find and Replace. In this article I'll show you how.
Hi!
Does your software have a functionality to remove all content BEFORE a symbol in a column? For example:
This:
Home + Office > Lighting > Floor Lamps
Home + Office > Lighting > Table Lamps
Home + Office > Lighting > Wall Lamps & Sconces
Home + Office > Lighting > Hanging & Pendant Lights
Would look like this:
Floor Lamps
Table Lamps
Wall Lamps & Sconces
Hanging & Pendant Lamps
You can do this with Excel's find and replace by using the "wildcard" asterisk character *
Excel 2003 and earlier: Choose Edit and then select Replace (or press Ctrl+H).
Excel 2007+2010: Choose Find & Select in the Editing group on the Home tab, and then select Replace (or press Ctrl+H).
In this case, to remove all before the > character, just search for "*> " (without the quotes) and replace with nothing. Then all characters before "> " are removed.

The opposite is also easy. To remove everything after the > character, just search for ">*" (without the quotes) and replace with nothing.

I'm proud to mention that the pre-release of the new version of ASAP Utilities is now available.
You can download it from here.
We've made several (speed) improvements and included a few new tools that are available via ASAP Utilities Options » New tools in development (English only).
One of this new tools can be a huge time saver for people that use find and replace a lot in Excel:
Bulk replace: replace multiple values at once

This can be a huge time saver for people that need to find and replace a lot in Excel, such as for example translators.
Just specify the values to look for in the first column, and the values to replace with in the second column. Then you can use this table/range and let ASAP Utilities do the rest.

At this moment the bulk/batch search/replace is done in cell values. We're working on more items to search/replace in, such as formulas, comments and hyperlinks.
Please let me know what you think of it and if we're missing something.
