Tip: Easily remove leading characters in your cells

Do you recognize any of these situations?

  • How can I strip off the first 6 characters of a cell and use that as the value of the cell?
  • I have a column (27422 rows long). I would like to delete the first 4 characters.
  • I have a long list of part numbers that start with the letter R. I want to remove the R from the part number. The problem is the R can also appear elsewhere in the part number but I need that to remain in place. Therefore I can't use Excel's find and replace to remove the R.

Just select the cells and then use the following tool:
ASAP Utilities » Text » Delete number of leading characters...

This a quicker alternative than using a temporary column and a combination of the Excel's functions =LEFT(), =MID(), =RIGHT() and =LEN().
