  • Installation Options

    Standard Installer

    The standard installer is intended for most installations and managed deployments. It requires administrator rights and can install ASAP Utilities for multiple Windows users on the computer or server.

    Non-Admin Installer

    A separate single-user installer is available for environments where the user does not have administrator rights. It installs ASAP Utilities for the current Windows user only.

    Interactive Installation

    To install ASAP Utilities manually, run either installer and follow the setup wizard.

    Silent Installation

    Both the standard and non-admin installers support unattended installation using standard Inno Setup command-line parameters. This allows deployment through software management and deployment solutions.

    Silent installation example:

    setup.exe /VERYSILENT /SUPPRESSMSGBOXES

    Install for all Windows users:

    setup.exe /VERYSILENT /SUPPRESSMSGBOXES /TASKS="allusers"

    Install for the current Windows user only:

    setup.exe /VERYSILENT /SUPPRESSMSGBOXES /TASKS="justme"

    Create an installation log in a specific location:

    setup.exe /VERYSILENT /SUPPRESSMSGBOXES /LOG="C:\Temp\ASAPUtilities.log"

  • License Deployment

    How Licensing Works

    ASAP Utilities uses perpetual, per-user licensing. A license is a one-time purchase and is not a subscription.

    • Each person who uses ASAP Utilities requires a license.
    • For example, if 50 employees use ASAP Utilities, you need 50 licenses or a 50-user license.
    • We do not offer floating, concurrent, or shared licenses.
    • A licensed user may install ASAP Utilities on up to 3 computers used by that same person.
    • Licenses can be used worldwide within the same organization and are not restricted based on where they were purchased.
    • License information is stored per Windows user account.
    • Licenses can be deployed through the Windows Registry.

    Transferring or Reassigning a License

    Licenses can be transferred to a new computer or reassigned to another employee within the same organization when needed, without contacting us. See license transfer instructions for details.

    Manual License Entry

    For individual installations, users can enter their license details directly in ASAP Utilities:

    ASAP Utilities > ASAP Utilities Options > Enter License...

    License information is stored for the current Windows user.

    Automated License Deployment

    For managed deployments, license information can be deployed through the Windows Registry.
    License information cannot be supplied through the setup command-line parameters.

    The license information is stored for each Windows user at:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\VB and VBA Program Settings\ASAP Utilities\setup\

    The following string values contain the registration information:

    name
    key
    order
    orderamount
    organization

    Important: Some license values are encoded
    For automated license deployment, first enter the license manually for one user. Then copy the resulting registry values and deploy them to the other licensed users.
    Do not create or modify the encoded registry values manually.

    Because license information is stored under HKEY_CURRENT_USER, it must be deployed for each licensed Windows user, regardless of which account is used to install ASAP Utilities.

  • Uninstalling

    Standard Uninstall

    Close Excel before uninstalling ASAP Utilities.

    ASAP Utilities can be uninstalled through Windows Settings or Control Panel. You can also run the uninstaller directly from the ASAP Utilities installation folder.

    Silent Uninstall

    ASAP Utilities can be removed silently for managed deployments.

    unins000.exe /VERYSILENT /SUPPRESSMSGBOXES

    Uninstalling for Other Windows Users

    Excel stores enabled add-ins separately for each Windows user. If ASAP Utilities is uninstalled using a different account, such as an administrator account, it cannot automatically be removed from Excel for the user who normally uses it.

    In this situation:

    1. Before uninstalling, run Remove_ASAP_Utilities_from_the_Excel_menu.exe in the context of each Windows user who has ASAP Utilities enabled in Excel.
    2. Uninstall ASAP Utilities.

    The helper program is included in the ASAP Utilities installation folder and does not require administrator rights.

    For automated deployments, the removal program can also be run silently:

    Remove_ASAP_Utilities_from_the_Excel_menu.exe /VERYSILENT /SUPPRESSMSGBOXES

    If ASAP Utilities is not removed from Excel for a user before the program is uninstalled, that user may receive an error that ASAP Utilities could not be found the next time Excel starts.

  • Updating Existing Installations

    Installing a newer version preserves user settings.

    • Settings are preserved per user.
    • License information is only retained when the installed license is eligible for the newer version.

  • User Settings and Storage Locations

    Windows Registry

    Most user settings, including license information, are stored per Windows user under:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\VB and VBA Program Settings\ASAP Utilities\

    Because these settings are stored under HKEY_CURRENT_USER, each Windows user has their own ASAP Utilities configuration.

    My Tools & Shortcuts

    The user's My Tools & Shortcuts configuration is stored separately in:

    asap_custom_menu.ini

    By default, this file is stored in the user's roaming Application Data folder:

    %APPDATA%\ASAP Utilities\asap_custom_menu.ini

    Typically, this resolves to:

    C:\Users\[UserName]\AppData\Roaming\ASAP Utilities\asap_custom_menu.ini

    The location of this file can be viewed or changed in Excel under:

    ASAP Utilities > ASAP Utilities Options > Settings, language and contact information... > Folder settings

    If a different folder is selected and it does not contain an asap_custom_menu.ini file, ASAP Utilities automatically creates a new file with the default settings.

  • Security and Data Processing

    ASAP Utilities runs locally inside Microsoft Excel. Your workbooks and their contents are processed locally on your computer. ASAP Utilities does not send your workbooks or their contents to ASAP Utilities or third-party servers.

    ASAP Utilities runs with the permissions of the Windows user and does not require special user permissions.

    The ASAP Utilities installer and Excel add-in files are digitally signed with an Extended Validation (EV) Code Signing Certificate.

    ASAP Utilities connects to our licensing system for license activation and validation. This communication uses HTTPS/TLS and does not include your workbooks or their contents.

  • System Requirements

    ASAP Utilities 9 works with Microsoft 365 and Excel 2010-2024 (desktop versions for Windows).

    It can be used on Windows versions on which these Excel versions run.

    ASAP Utilities does not run in Excel for the web, Excel for Mac, Google Sheets or LibreOffice Calc.
